Shore and Riverline Protection

THE CHALLENGE

Any construction project that is close to a riverbank or shoreline is susceptible to erosion damage resulting from the rise and fall of the tides as well as from the wave impact action. To prevent such erosion damage and protect construction projects from deterioration, improved protection methods should be applied.

THE SOLUTION

Thrace Group WG & WG-HF Woven series and NW/PNW heavy Needle-punched Nonwoven geotextile series possess high puncture strengths, are resistant to dynamic perforation while at the same time allow for proper filtration and water flow properties. These advanced features make them suitable for the protection of riverbanks and shorelines constructed using heavy natural rock armor or prefabricated concrete blocks. Thrace Group geotextiles, when placed between the underlying soil and exterior protection layer, act as a filtration and separation surface that prevents the underlying soil from being washed away from the impacting waves. Concurrently, they also act as a protection layer for long term use. The underlying geotextile layer is able to withstand impact loads resulting from the placement of such armor as well as the crushing waves against the banks.

THE BENEFITS

  • Cost effective alternative to mineral filter layers
  • High resistance to damage
