Landfills

THE CHALLENGE

Landfill construction is an expensive investment that involves the underground storage of waste material. As much as it is important to cover up the waste material, it is even more important to contain it within the outline of the construction site in order to prevent soil contamination. Since the waste material also consists of liquid leachate, an impermeable layer such as a geomembrane is used at the base of the landfill. This layer, however, is prone to installation damage which translates to leakage.

THE SOLUTION

Thrace Group NW/PNW needle-punched nonwoven geotextile series offers superior mechanical properties of tensile strength/elongation, static puncture as well as perforation resistance making it very suitable for landfill applications. By cloaking the geomembrane, the two nonwoven layers create a protective envelope that ensures the soundness of the construction.

THE BENEFITS

  • Enabling geomembrane installation in all conditions (i.e. near natural ground and granular layers)
  • Increased project security
