In view of securing and facilitating the important works of Greek archaeologists at the Kasta hill in Amphipolis, Thrace Group donated a special mix of its products that were delivered on site. The Thrace Group products (geosynthetics, groundcover, road safety nets, ropes, webbings, sacks, shading nets and crates) that were chosen in collaboration with the lead archaeologist of the project, Katerina Peristeri, are being used for the biggest part of the construction works taking place.
With a surrounding wall of 500m, the design of the massive tomb discovered two months ago suggests an important figure was buried there, possibly a relative of Alexander the Great. Until the day of writing, Greek archaeologists have unearthed a tomb guarded by a pair of carved stone sphinxes, two caryatids (sculpted female figures), and a large floor mosaic.
The burial site is said to be the largest ever found in Greece and the prefecture of Greece's northern region of Central Macedonia has already initiated a procedure to add it in UNESCO's World Heritage list.
